William (Patrick)'s Story
After high school, I joined the Marine Corps where I remained for 10 years. I travelled to many destinations and enjoyed the heck out of it. I fulfilled my dream of being a Marine Drill Instructor in 1995, and served in Desert Storm and Desert Shield in Saudi Arabia.
My Son (now 20) was born while I was at Boot Camp. He is a tae kwan do instructor and has his own studio now. He's at PI going through Boot Camp and will be in the Marine Reserves. Desert Storm provided me with a daughter (now 17) who lives with her mother in Maine.
Being married and being in the military didn't work out very well, and decided to get out of the Marine Corps to pursue a career in law enforcement. I worked for 8 years as a police officer and enjoyed it tremendously. Had some of the most exciting times of my li...Expand for more
fe. Some of the worst, also. Lost a good friend in the line of duty. Still miss him and think about him.
Two years ago decided to sign on with the National Guard as a way to continue my military career and work towards completing my military retirement.
Life turns on a dime, and now I'm recruiting for the Army National Guard. I never saw myself as a recruiter, but I am definitely enjoying it. If all goes well, I hope to remain until I actually retire and then resume my career in law enforcement.
If there's one thing I've learned it's that life does truly turn on a dime. Life will beat you down and keep on beating on you begging for your submission: never give up, never let up or let go.
Life is full of surprises. I've gotten some of the most pleasant surprises in the last few weeks.
